J.C. Newman

J.C. Newman Cigar Co. is America's oldest family-owned premium cigar company, founded in 1895 in Cleveland by Julius Caeser Newman and now headquartered in Tampa, Florida, in the historic El Reloj factory complex. The Newman family survived Prohibition, the Cuban embargo, industry consolidation, and changing consumer tastes by mixing American manufacturing heritage with elite Dominican partnerships. In 1986, fate linked the Newmans with the Fuentes in Tampa; Tabacalera A. Fuente soon rolled La Unica for Newman, and the relationship grew into one of the most durable brand-plus-factory alliances in premium cigars.

Newman's Dominican ultra-premium marques, including flagship Diamond Crown, MAXIMUS, Julius Caeser, and Black Diamond, are handmade at Tabacalera A. Fuente. Separately, Brick House and other Nicaraguan volume roll at the family's PENSA factory in Estelí. The company also operates further Nicaraguan capacity (including the PENSA factory story for brands such as Brick House, Perla del Mar, El Baton, and Quorum), so not every Newman brand shares the Fuente floor. The families also co-founded the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, tying commercial partnership to long-running community work in the Dominican Republic.
